MARITIME HISTORY! Local historian and Salem resident (born and raised), Antoine De Montalant helped us to curate this one-of-a-kind "Salem Then and Now" tour and will be a featured guide on many walks! Guests learn how to take great photos with Jenny at the teaching helm, while exploring the town and learning about it's history. Expect to spend a total of two hours, more or less.  We start with a short photo lesson and then visit sites that highlight Salem's rich history of trade, architecture and more with the highlight being the golden age of maritime trading in Salem, 1775-1812. Tours start and end at Old Town Hall and other stops may include East India Marine Hall, visits to homes from various periods, Narbonne House, Derby Wharf,  Naumkeag (Native American for Salem) Steam Cotton Mill and Artists Row.

LOCAL ARTISTS! Each tour includes a stop to visit a local artisan or small, local business either on Artists Row or one of the other small shops where local craftspeople make and sell their work.

TAKE BETTER PHOTOS!  All tours begin with a lesson in photo basics, what we like to call the "tools in your photo tool box". You will receive feedback on your work and on-the-go instruction and exercises.  All guides are working photographers with the main host being Jenny (Big Picture Art House owner/photographer/teacher).

DO I NEED A CAMERA?  You can use your own camera, even a phone, or use one of our Nikon digital SLRs. If you use one of ours, the fee is $10 and includes a flash drive with all your tour images on it.  Come 10 minutes early for a camera use tutorial.

DATES:  PRIVATE customizable walks available with Jenny weekdays anytime and week ends at 11am for $275 (up to 6 people) or $375 (up to 10 people). Public walks are Saturdays and Sundays at 2pm.  More walks will be added as demand dictates on additional Sundays and Fridays.  Email Jenny bigpicturearthouse@gmail.com to be notified or request a private tour.
